Policies

Terms of service.

The conditions that govern your use of the NBSC website, course platform, field sessions, and certifications.

Last updated: April 30, 2026

1. Acceptance

By creating an account, enrolling in a course, or booking a field session, you agree to these terms and to NBSC's privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the services.

2. What NBSC is

The National Bushcraft & Wilderness Self-Reliance Council of Canada is a private educational organization. It is not a government agency, a regulator, a military or law enforcement authority, or a rescue authority. Its certifications are educational competency indicators — they do not constitute a licence or a guarantee of employment.

3. Eligibility

You must be 16 or older to create an account and complete Level 1 Foundations. Some field sessions have higher minimum ages, listed on each session page. Participation in field sessions also requires you to read and sign a separate session-specific waiver.

4. Your account

  • Keep your password confidential. You're responsible for activity under your account.
  • Use your real name. Credentials issued to false names are void.
  • One person per account. Sharing logins is grounds for suspension.

5. Course and field session conduct

  • Follow instructor guidance during field sessions. Instructors have full authority to remove participants who put themselves or others at risk.
  • Respect the land and the people you train with. Harassment is grounds for immediate removal.
  • Do not redistribute NBSC course materials. They are licensed to you for personal study only.

6. Credentials

NBSC certifications are issued on demonstrated competency, with a unique credential ID, and can be verified at /verify. We may suspend or revoke a credential when:

  • The holder violates these terms in a serious or repeated way.
  • An assessment is later found to have been compromised.
  • The holder fails to renew where renewal is required.

Suspended or revoked status is reflected publicly on the verification page. NBSC does not disclose the underlying reasons publicly.

7. Payments & refunds

Pricing for each course or session is shown at the point of purchase. Refund terms are set out in the refund & cancellation policy.

8. Cancellations by NBSC

Instructors have authority to delay, shorten, modify, or cancel a session for safety reasons — weather, conditions, or operational risk. When that happens, refund handling follows the refund policy.

9. Limitation of liability

Wilderness training reduces risk. It does not eliminate it. Each field session has its own risk acknowledgement and waiver, which is the controlling document for that session. To the maximum extent permitted by law, NBSC is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the services.

10. Changes to these terms

We update these terms occasionally. When we do, the "last updated" date at the top of this page changes. Material changes — anything that affects your rights or obligations — are announced by email to active accounts at least 30 days before they take effect.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario.

12. Contact

Questions about these terms go to legal@nationalbushcraft.ca or use the contact form.
